This lady was really pretty. she's modeling again for our class on Tuesday, so I'm gonna try to do a better portrait. 6b graphite stick and 6b woodless graphite pencil. (it's fun using those together!)

I equipped Roy with a claymore because I was excited to watch the last 2 episodes of Claymore with Matt last Friday. The final episodes kinda sucked and we were disappointed.

The initial idea I had was for her to be in a kitchen looking super creepy with a bunch of cute food around. There are some things I need to add to get the point across, but I'm pretty happy with the way it's going so far. Huge thanks to Michael for helping me with the lighting!

I thought I'd squeeze in a blog post between homework and class.

The first assignment for Concept class was to make 100 silhouettes and 50 "doodles" that could be turned into characters. (I counted wrong and only did 97 silhouettes... shh)

After that, we had to choose two silhouettes and one doodle, and design three characters that could fit into the shapes of each of them. This was my favorite one, "Cecily."

Here are a few random characters from another part of the assignment. Leaflet, Leonid, Cuddler, Toothfairy, and Bootyblader.

For part 3 we had to combine a randomly selected animal/vehicle and animal/animal. Here are my Moosejeep and Monarch Salamander.

These first two are from an assignment in painting class from Tilde Van Uytven, our visiting instructor from Belgium. Tilde and Robin Cody switched places for a few weeks, and I hope they both had a good time! It was a lot of fun working with Tilde. :) Anyway, the assignment was to create a sense of space without using western perspective.

The bottom two paintings are acrylic studies that I had forgotten about until I found them in the painting studio yesterday, haha.

I just had my final critique for the first semester of Painting 1. I got a C for the semester, which I think is a pretty fair grade. I decided to upload all my paintings. My work isn't as impressive as a lot of peoples' but I think I'm improving - they're in chronological order and it looks like they're getting better. Don't get me wrong, I know they all still suck. :)
I need to practice using hue and value more effectively together, and remember to think about warm and cool lighting and shadows.

1 - limited palette: white, black, payne's gray, yellow ochre

3 - limited palette: white, black, payne's gray, yellow ochre, venetian red, cerulean blue

4 - same

5 - full palette, but I didn't use that to my advantage, haha

6 - first full palette still life. this one was 30x30 in (-_- )

7 - white and black ink and charcoal on chip board

8 - I like how this one turned out actually, but I suck at painting cloth. This was done pretty quickly compared to everything else.

9 - I think I did pretty well with the colors in this one. shapes, not so much. this was also a pretty quick one.

I had a good time in painting class this semester; oil is really fun to work with. I can't wait to try a portrait :D
